Morning birds

The sun created shadowy bars of the pale
vertical blinds and bright birds,
immune to their existence,
escaped. I lost focus.
Then coffee spilled
on my wrinkled laundry.

Questions

Is public opinion Godzilla?
Is the opposition the majority, or just a loud few?

Does magnitude create a pendulum?
Are we swinging puppets?
Do we fall when the dust settles,
or just settle for a partial view?

Why do we consult the animal—
is his opinion more valuable than our own?
Or is our own a myth until he speaks?

Should we put the animal to sleep
and recycle something more substantial than his thoughts?

They’re a giant snore anyway,
wouldn’t you say?
